Description
We don’t always know the context for a Psalm. Today we do. David had an affair with a woman named Bathsheba. When she became pregnant, he had her husband – one of his own generals – killed to cover it up. The prophet Nathan found out. Confronted with the reality of his sins, David wrote Psalm 51 to confess and find his way back into God’s good graces. He found his way back to God. He didn’t get stuck in self-condemnation. He didn’t circle around in self-denial. He admitted his error. He ended his song closer to God than when he began. Let us take THAT road less traveled this Lent.
